Sydney University Museum’s Children’s Days

Looking for something different for your kids this school holidays? Bring them to the University of Sydney’s museums and art gallery during the July school holidays for three hands-on, educational workshops. Kids will have the chance to write their name in ancient languages, become an artist for the day or learn about the Pacific by making Hawaiian paper quilt blocks, weaving a fish and decorating their very own photo frame!

All three days are entry by gold coin donation, and arts and craft activities are for children aged 5-12 years. Activities run throughout the day.

Letters: The History of Writing
Tuesday 1 July, 10am-4pm
Nicholson Museum, University of Sydney
Discover ancient writing, from Egyptian hieroglyphs, and Assyrian cuneiform to ancient Greek and Latin. Learn to write your name in an ancient language and see how ancient people wrote in stone, and touch genuine archaeological artefacts.

Drawing The Body
Thursday 3 July, 10am-4pm
University Art Gallery, University of Sydney
Can you draw a body? Become an artist for a day, and discover how the human body can be depicted in drawing, looking at the 16-19th century drawings exhibited.

The Pacific in Focus
Tuesday 8 July, 10am-4pm
Macleay Museum, University of Sydney
Create Pacific patterns, use tapa stamps and stencils to decorate a photo frame to take home, make Hawaiian paper quilt blocks or weave a fish. View the historic photographs of our neighbours in the Pacific.
