NETS Victoria are pleased to announce the forthcoming opening of ‘Synthetica’, a BLINDSIDE and NETS Victoria touring exhibition at Gippsland Art Gallery.
‘Synthetica’ brings together a selection of works by artists who incorporate artificial and technological innovations into their practice. Featuring artists Boe-lin Bastian, Simon Finn, Bonnie Lane, Kristin McIver, Kate Shaw, Alice Wormald and Paul Yore, the Gippsland presentation includes a satellite exhibition ‘Here in the Undergrowth’, showcasing the work of local artist Claire Marston. Marston is an emerging artist who works with conceptual three-dimensional text based installation.
Exhibition Curator, Claire Anna Watson explains; “The works in ‘Synthetica’ have been selected to provoke questions relating to the relationship we have with the physical world and the nature of experimentation in an increasingly technologised climate. A mesmerising display of video, painting, sculpture, installation and works on paper are animated into a super-charged vibration of drama and spectacle.”
Local Gippsland artist Claire Marston has been selected for the ‘Here in the Undergrowth’ component of ‘Synthetica’ at Gippsland Art Gallery. She says of her work “My sentences can often be conceptual traps. By challenging the way text is used and read I intend to communicate my curiosity with social obedience through the use of traditional communication”.
The exhibition will be officially opened in a newly refurbished space at the Gippsland Art Gallery, Port of Sale Business Centre, 64-66 Foster Street, Sale on Friday 10 July at 6.00pm. The opening will be preceded by a curator talk by Claire Anna Watson at 5.30pm. All welcome.
