In this collaborative exhibition, ceramic artist Vipoo Srivilasa and mixed media artist Sai-Wai Foo invite us to consider the central place of food in diasporic community identity and relationships, and its power as an entry point for intercultural understanding.
Srivilasa’s hand-painted works in porcelain draw on European decorative arts traditions and the stories and iconography of Thai and pan-Asian cultures and identities. Foo’s delicate sculptural works in textile, paper, and found materials exploring identity and belonging are inspired by her Malaysian Chinese heritage and background in fashion design.
