Co-curated by aMBUSH Gallery and Scott Owen, ‘While We’re Still Here’ showcases works rooted in the artistic traditions of ‘still life’. Twenty-one emerging and established Australian artists use everyday items, whether man-made or natural, and the language of juxtaposition and hidden symbolism to convey their life experiences. Considered composition, bold brushstrokes, detailed texture and rich colours reflect the dynamic diversity of these artists’ world views, exploring themes of consumerism, celebrity, relationships, feminism, religion and domesticity, while subtly reminding us of the brevity of human life.
