Wollongong Art Gallery, one of the largest regional art museums in Australia, has built a strong reputation in the field of watercolour painting over the past twenty-two years. The ‘Wollongong Art Gallery Watercolour Prizes’ – incorporating a national $10,000 Contemporary Watercolour Prize (acquisitive) and the $2,000 James Kiwi Traditional Watercolour Prize (local) – is a biennial competition aiming to encourage the development of watercolour painting in contemporary and traditional forms.
The acquisitive prize is open to all Australian artists producing works on paper in watercolour, acrylic, gouache, pen and ink, and watercolour mixed media.
