The ‘Calleen Art Award’ encourages originality, creativity and excellence in the visual arts and is one of the richest art prizes in regional Australia. Open to contemporary painting in any subject or style, this year the Cowra Regional Art Gallery received 272 entries from across Australia with 47 works selected as finalists, consisting of an engaging range of themes and subjects, chosen by a panel of art professionals.
The winner of the 2016 acquisitive $19,000 Calleen Art Award is Sydney-based artist Tania Mason, for her work Irregular Plasma (2016). The exhibition will showcase works by all 47 finalists including Highly Commended works by Ivan Goodacre and Hal Pratt, and Commended works by Peter Lankas and Rachel Milne.
