On Friday 8 November Melbourne’s finest street artists and graffiti crews/collectives began the complete repainting of Hosier and Rutledge Lanes.
‘ALLYOURWALLS’ has been organised by Land of Sunshine, Invurt and Just Another is a satellite project of Melbourne Now and brings together some of Melbourne’s finest street artists and graffiti crews/collectives in a major makeover of the Hosier Lane precinct that honours the history of the site and celebrates the significant role street art continues to play in the cultural life of this city.
Undertaken in two three-day sessions, the repainting of the upper portions of the laneways took place from 8 to 10 November, with the lower section of the laneways to be repainted from the 27 to 29 November.

Located in central Melbourne (between Flinders Lane and Flinders Street and running parallel with Russell Street), Hosier Lane, along with its cobbled ‘anabranch’ Rutledge Lane, first came to prominence as a venue for street art in the 1990s. Since then, the walls of the lanes have functioned as an unsanctioned, self-moderated exhibition site for local and visiting international street artists. More recently some of the lane’s residents and commercial tenants have, along with artists and artistic advisors, formed a management group, Hosier Inc. The aims of Hosier Inc. are to ensure that the unique qualities of the precinct, including its high-profile reputation and history, are respected while ensuring its amenity issues are met. Land of Sunshine, Invurt and Just Another have worked with Hosier Inc. on this initiative.
The project will allow the public the opportunity to observe artists at work and to be part of a celebration of Melbourne street style.
