New Zealand-born, Australian artist Rosalie Gascoigne (1917–99) was known for sculptural assemblages inspired by nature that revealed the beauty of discarded objects.
Evoking snaking bodies of water, massed white clouds, and weathered golden and grey expanses inspired by the wheat fields of the Monaro region of southeastern New South Wales, the exhibition is centred on resonances between found industrially produced materials and the Australian landscape; Gascoigne’s deep connection to the material landscape, presented alongside commissions by First Nations artists Lorraine Connelly-Northey, Janet Fieldhouse, and Glenda Nicholls.
