Shanghai-born, Melbourne-based artist Ning Chen specialises in traditional Chinese brush and ink on paper and is known for the creation of anthropomorphic animals, especially horses.
Presented in the Lunar Year of the Horse, this exhibition brings together recent works, with paintings characterised by a careful handling of colour, line, and space. Simplicity on the surface gives way to layered visual relationships, where traditional ink aesthetics coexist with a contemporary sensibility; the works not presenting direct narratives, but inviting viewers to engage through association and feeling.
