With a practice entering its seventh decade, Sydney-based artist Michael Johnson is known for an innovative use of colour in his abstract paintings; his fusion between primal colour and organic form that forged a distinctly personal language.
Drawing on key paintings and works on paper from his private studio archive, spanning from mid 1986 to 2012, on show here is his broad creative arc – expanding the possibilities of abstract art as a discipline through a continuing interest in roaming freely between minimalism and lyricism.
