Australia’s’ Drawing Trail Festival is back again this year! Art and drawing workshops are featured as well as the highly anticipated Innovative Sketchbook Prize Competition. This is a fun filled festival not to me missed.
Sketchbook Competition entrants are provided with a free sketchbook and map together with 12 scenic Blue Mountains locations to discover and explore. The selected locations are pleasantly scenic with waterfalls, lookouts, industrial sites, streetscapes, National parks and gardens. Entrants are encouraged to partake on an adventurous journey and explore their artistic skills. On their travels, entrants are required to compose 8 artistic drawings. There is a wonderful opportunity for applicants to have their completed sketchbook exhibited and judged for the chance to win a first prize of $5000 as well as other prizes worth over $1000.
The judges this year include Damien Minton; Director of Watters Gallery, Gria Shead Artist and Selena Seifert; Festival Director and Artist. Entries for the Sketchbook Competition open 15 September and close at 10am Saturday 4 October.
All of the submitted sketchbooks will be on display at Wild Valley Art Park, a unique self sustaining Art Centre and Gallery located on 17 acres in Wentworth Falls. This is an exciting way for entrants to share with viewers some of the surroundings and objects that caught their eye as they crossed through the selected locations. Make sure to come along to the opening night drinks event on 5 October at 4-6pm and see the announcement of the winners and all of the work that makes up the exhibition. The Sketchbook Competition exhibition runs until 19 October.
This years Workshop program features innovative workshops with leading artists including David Fairbairn, Suzanne Archer, Andrew Antonio, Michael Herron, Melinda Jones, Michiyo Miwa and Jody Graham. Participants can enrol to learn Etching, Pochoir, Drawing from the bush, Architectural site drawing and Portraiture.
