Wellington Shire Council and Gippsland Art Gallery are pleased to present ‘Walhalla 150 Years’ by Percy Masters (1893-1998). A bona fide ‘Gippsland treasure’, Masters’ paintings, are greatly admired for their charm as much as their historical value.
Born in Walhalla in 1893, Masters spent a lifetime painting his memories of a youth growing up in the township. Today his works form an important account of the rise and fall of this early gold-mining town (which would later rise again). ‘Walhalla 150 Years’ marks 150 years of the town’s foundation, and 100 years since the closure of the Long Tunnel Mine.
