In this exhibition, Sydney-based photographic artist Pamela Pauline draws on the compositional language of artists such as Rachel Ruysch, Ambrosius Bosschaert, and Jan van Huysum, reconstructing the classical floral still life using Australian native flora and fauna.
Meticulously constructed from hundreds of her photographs taken of living collections at botanic gardens, in the bush, and conservation sanctuaries across Australia, many of the species in Pauline’s works are threatened with extinction – brought together in carefully balanced arrangements that speak of beauty, loss, and resilience.
