2015 Paramor Prize awarded to Erica Seccombe

The inaugural ‘Paramor Prize: art + innovation 2015‘ is an annual acquisitive prize of $20,000. A $5,000 Mayoral Award is issued to the artwork that best addresses the guiding principles of Liverpool City Council and a $1,000 People’s Choice Award is issued to the artwork voted most popular.

The winner of this year’s Prize has been announced with Canberra local Erica Seccombe taking home the prize for her work, Virtual Life. Made of solvent print on aluminium composite board, and reflects modern techno-scientific culture, the work explores our relationship to nature and our technologically mediated experience of the natural world. The reflective surface not only creates a three-dimensional effect, but shows the reflection of the observer.

Also announced was the winner of the Mayoral Award and $5,000, which was presented to Camperdown artist Susanna Strati for her work, Wreath #2. Made from Communion breads, copper, paper, graphite, ink, silk, the work explores expressions of personal identity through a vocabulary of grief and mourning.

Both works are currently on display as part of the ‘Paramor Prize: art + innovation 2015’ at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

The Liverpool City Council vision for the future is to be the city of the great South West – a region of opportunity, prosperity and diversity. Innovation is a guiding principle of Liverpool City Council and the ‘Paramor Prize: art + innovation 2015’ provides an opportunity to develop new solutions and creative explorations of the new challenges and opportunities in the rapidly growing South West Sydney region.

‘Paramor Prize: art + innovation 2015’ is launched in memory of one of Australia’s most loved and celebrated female modern artists, Wendy Paramor. Her artistic practice was innovative and forward thinking and as local Liverpool resident, Paramor exemplified the artistic creativity of the Liverpool region
