Amanda Penrose Hart: Manly – Somewhere on the Australian Coast

Travelling is a key aspect to the practice of Amanda Penrose Hart, who paints that which surrounds her. Penrose Hart is constantly looking and exploring a variety of landscapes, from the bushy outback around her rural studio in Sofala NSW to the craggy coastline of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It is this area that has inspired the subject matter of her most recent body of work.

The exhibition presents all new work inspired by the northern beaches of Sydney. Predominately landscape paintings, Penrose Hart includes a spattering of human figures – surfboat rowers catching a wave into shore, fitness fanatics jogging laps of the beach, a female ocean swimmer locked in the jaws of a shark! – giving an authenticity to the place, even if comical in some instances.
