Amani Haydar: The mother wound

‘The mother wound’ by Amani Haydar tells a personal story of maternal loss, trauma, fear and sadness caused by male violence. Haydar reflects on her own journey as well as the past experiences of the women of her matriarchal lineage. Painted portraits embellished with hand stitching and collage, video and a textile wall piece reveal the strength and resilience of this artist as she seeks to heal inherited wounds through creativity, self-awareness and activism with hope for the future safety and freedom of all women.
