Angus Nivison: Letters Home

Nivison’s latest paintings move from familiar pale creams and greys to new vivid purples, pinks and blues. The circle makes an emergence in a handful of works – a form that has not previously appeared in his art. Nivison joked (or was he serious?) that this was inspired by rounds of French camembert cheese. We like to think they are an evocation of the moon over the Seine…

Among other things we find a multi-panel work that Nivison has been pondering for over ten years in homage to Monet. As with much of Nivison’s art, there is a quality to these paintings that transports his viewers to another time and place at the edge of memory.
