These are my people, this is my shore….
To mark the 200th anniversary of the establishment of Bungaree’s Farm – the first land grant by colonial authorities to an Aboriginal person in Australia – Mosman Art Gallery have reprised the Bungaree Arts Project this summer by hosting a nine-day site-specific event, ‘Bungaree Farm’, at Mosman’s Georges Heights in Sydney.
Opening on Friday 30th January at 6pm, ‘Bungaree’s Farm’ presents multi-media works, talks and performances by contemporary Aboriginal artists offering a greater appreciation and deeper community engagement with the story of Bungaree and indigenous history of the Mosman area.
Located on what is thought to be the site of Bungaree’s original farm, this satellite exhibition is staged inside the large Camouflage Fuel Tank (T5) situated near Headland Park, Georges Heights Oval. It is the first time this unique and historic space is being used as a community and cultural venue.
The exhibition is the result of a series of intensive residency workshops held on-site and led by renowned Aboriginal curator Djon Mundine OAM covering the following themes Travelling Bungaree, Being Bungaree, Walking Bungaree, Singing Bungaree and Team Bungaree. Artists include Daniel Boyd, Jason Wing, Peter McKenzie, Leanne Tobin, Amala Groom, Blak Douglas (Adam Hill), Caroline Oakley, Bjorn Stewart, Karla Dickens, Leah Flanagan, Warwick Keen and Djon Mundine.
‘Bungaree’s Farm’ exhibition developed by Mosman Art Gallery as a companion to the ‘Bungaree: The First Australian’ exhibition.
