In addition to celebrating and remembering the departed, funerals (or re-burials) are steeped in tradition and symbolism. So, while death is universal, the cultural lens through which we experience it is varied. Curated by Grace Partridge for Antidote Projects, ‘Dancing with the Dead’ connects memory and corporeality within a larger context of ‘deaths’; viewing dying, regeneration and endings as transgressive metaphors signalling other aspects of our contemporary lives. A mix of light and dark imagery reflects on customs of loss, religiosity and ritual, while re-imagining death through celebration, dance and joy.
