Daniel Butterworth: When The Black Dog Bites

Experimenting with ‘ekphrasis’ artist Daniel Butterworth asked the public to supply him with personal stories, the words and emotions of which he internalised to paint these striking works on the subject of ‘the black dog of depression’.

Butterworth uses house paint with a gestural approach in this dark series which is deeply intimate, creating a sense of solidarity and a hint of voyeurism.
