Erwin Wurm: Crap Head

Erwin Wurm is known for his humorous works that distort familiarity to create a gripping critique of contemporary culture.

Using everyday objects such as wood, styrofoam, resin, paint and textiles, Wurm’s three-dimensional works question consumer society through manipulations of objects and materials that are interwoven into everyday life. He uses such objects to comment on topics involved with contemporary society, such as physical, spiritual, psychological and political dimensions of human experience.

Wurm’s ‘One Minute Sculptures’ engage the viewer by providing instructions on how to interact with an everyday object, extending the definition of sculpture to realms related to performance, ephemeral experience, and relational aesthetics, and inviting viewers to become an active part of the work.
