Medieval to Metal: The art & evolution of the guitar

Explore guitar design through the ages, from original ouds and theorbos to acoustic and electric, as well as paintings, prints, gig posters, album covers, and rock photography; each work depicting the musical instrument from its Medieval beginnings to its pivotal role in blues, country and rock ‘n’ roll music.

This exhibition features forty iconic guitars on loan from the National Guitar Museum (USA) alongside more than 200 music-inspired masterpieces by Picasso, Renoir, Manet, and contemporary artists – representing almost two centuries of music symbolism in culture and art.
