Pintupi artist Walala Tjapaltjarri’s new exhibition comprises works on paper, sculpture and collaborative works with Michael Eather, which bring into focus Tjapaltjarri’s distinctive design of the infamous Tingari ancestors and compositions, made famous by the Pintupi elders with the birth of the Central Desert art movement of the late twentieth century.
Whilst these creations originate from sacred men’s designs, Tjapaltjarri has prolifically reinterpreted them in a style that is both abstract and simplistic, bold and minimalist. A new body of works features vibrant patterned backgrounds on paper by Eather.
