If you don’t fight . . . you lose: politics, posters and PAM

Be transported to an era of political volatility, student activism and industrial unrest. This exhibition is a timely tribute to Adelaide’s radical spirit of the 1970s – focusing on the Progressive Art Movement (PAM), a group of artists, writers, poets, filmmakers, actors, and musicians whose aim was to cultivate a politically progressive culture rooted in local issues while vehemently opposing US imperialism.

Featuring political prints and posters by Robin Best, Robert Boynes, Jim Cane, Pamela Harris, Andrew Hill, Ann Newmarch, Mandy Martin, Christine McCarthy, Peter Mumford, and Progressive Printers Alliance.

Ann Newmarch, We must risk unlearning, 1975, screenprint, ink on paper, ed. 28/40, 71.2 × 55.5cm (image), 81.4 × 66cm (sheet). Collection of Flinders University Museum of Art. Courtesy the artist and Flinders University Museum of Art, South Australia
