Africa Fashion presents a dynamic survey of nearly 200 historical and contemporary designs, including couture, bespoke and ready-to-wear fashions, and body adornments, from over fifty designers from twenty-plus countries and regions throughout Africa – displayed alongside an array of textiles, film and photography.
The exhibition is structured into two parts: illuminating fashion’s role in self-representation and agency during the African independence movement in the 1950s and 60s; and exploring how the digital world has accelerated the expansion of the industry, from global fashion weeks and celebrity wearers to social media.
