Expanded Canvas

Expanded Canvas showcases the ideas and aesthetics that characterise painting practice today, including artworks that reveal the continually evolving nature of the medium when fused with other disciplines and materials such as design, sculpture, animation, and textiles. Artists David Harley, Lara Merrett, Judy Millar, Tom Polo, Bundit Puangthong and Huseyin Sami use modern surfaces: drop sheets, sign vinyl, virtual space, and the gallery walls to create “moving paintings”, colourful painter cloth constructions, canvas theatre, rematerialisations of paint, a billboard without a message and a three-day live painting performance.
