‘To companion a companion’ is an exhibition of new work and ornithological study by Fernando do Campo proposing humans as a companion species to birds. With one foot in the field and the other in the archives, do Campo focuses on ‘companioning’ as an artistic strategy, researching the knotted histories of urban multispecies encounters through listening, painting and archiving, as well as non-verbal forms of communicating. Featuring a year-long painting series of every bird perceived by the artist, video work of house sparrows in the Americas, and a performance lecture.
