George Raftopoulos: Mythica

In his first solo exhibition with MCLEMOI GALLERY, Raftopoulos continues his investigation into Greek mythology and mythological constricts. Based upon everyday experiences and encounters with people – both directly and observed – his paintings seek to celebrate the mundane by portraying the characters as a kind of deity.

Intuition plays a key role in composing his pictures. Rapid brush strokes layer the canvas and construct the figures based upon memory; colour and tone used elevate the character and create a narrative open to the viewer’s imagination.
