Graeme Drendel’s paintings and works on paper possess an exacting whimsy. He skilfully renders a dream-like stage for symbols and his actors to gather, sometimes as companions though often alone, similar to a Renaissance composition but without a didactic message. The lack of moralising is part of the pleasure of his mysterious images. This exhibition concentrates on the isolated figure in a ‘seemingly unlimited space devoid of any concrete point of reference,’ said the artist.
