He is Myself: The Art of Nyaparu (William) Gardiner

Nyaparu (William) Gardiner (1943–2018) lived, worked, and raised a family in the remote north-west Kimberley and Pilbara regions. This body of work illustrates the life of Aboriginal pastoral workers and an era of unprecedented social and economic change that included the fight for Aboriginal people’s rights and recognition.

“Doing these paintings is how I remember our old people. These pictures I’m showing you are from my memories. It’s a hard life in those days and we had to change a lot in this life.” – Mr Gardiner.
