This National Gallery of Australia touring exhibition celebrates art made by women, featuring more than sixty works by fifty-six female artists, from Janet-Cumbrae Stewart’s delicate portrait drawings and Margaret Preston’s widely admired Flapper, 1925, to Vivienne Binns’ groundbreaking feminist pieces from the 1970s and ‘80s, with additional contributions from collectives like the Women’s Domestic Needlework Group and paintings by First Nations artists Emily Kam Kngwarray and Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori. These women created new forms of art and cultural commentary; here, their creative and intellectual relationships are highlighted.
