Kristian Laemmle-Ruff is a Melbourne-based artist who has travelled the world investigating and photographing social, cultural and environmental challenges and events that impact on the condition of the land.
Laemmle-Ruff presents a series of works that are a consequence of his travels including; nuclear disaster areas in Japan, and Pine Gap, the US-Australian intelligence facility in Alice Springs, along with a soundtrack ‘… and the ships arrived … Yepenyepuk’, that paints a sonic picture of the past 300 years of Australia’s history.
“Mind the Gap is a somewhat dark and politically-charged meditation on the gap between cultures in Australia. The work aims to highlight colonial mannerisms and differences between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal ways of understanding and valuing land,” says Laemmle-Ruff.
