Lesley Dumbrell: Thrum

Spanning more than five decades of Lesley Dumbrell’s practice, this exhibition presents over ninety works on paper, paintings – including Spangle, 1977, and Solstice, 1974 – and recent forays into sculpture that demonstrate Dumbrell’s unique abstract language, which probes the nuances of colour, rhythm and visual perception to generate expression of experience and emotion, sensation and place.

Using a restricted palette guided by a grid substructure, Dumbrell’s brushwork often creates a sense of optical play and dynamic movement suggestive of gusts of wind, the rustle of textiles or a lyrical pulse.
