Lisa Reihana: Nomads of the Sea

Gallery Sally Dan Cuthbert will showcase a new photographic series by Lisa Reihana, derived from a recent three-dimensional immersive film that will be on view for the Biennale of Sydney titled ‘Nomads of the Sea’. The artist weaves historical fact and fiction in retelling the story of Charlotte Badger, Australia’s first female pirate. In doing so, she explores the nature and tension of cultural leadership, spiritual custom, ego and desire in the face of foreign political challenge in 1800s New Zealand.
