Australian contemporary glass ties with Germany were first initiated through the late Klaus Moje AO (1936-2016), from Hamburg, who established the Glass Workshop at ANU School of Art and was integral to the development of Canberra Glassworks.
Following an open call to artists, five emerging artists from Canberra Glassworks and five artists from JamFactory in Adelaide have had work selected for the ‘Made in Australia’ exhibition in Berlin, Germany. Canberra Glassworks artists include Luke Chiswell, Rose-Mary Faulkner, Emeirely Nucifora-Ryan, Jennifer Kemarre Martiniello and Nicholas Doran Adams. JamFactory artists include Emma Young, Renato Perez, Kristel Britcher, Liam Fleming and Billy Crellin.
‘The exhibition is being coordinated by Berlin Glas who were involved in the selection process. By working together, the three glass organisations aim to create new opportunities for associates and alumni of the JamFactory training programme and the Canberra Glassworks artistic community to showcase their innovative and unique works in a new international design context, bringing more awareness to Germany about the importance of this medium in the fine arts.
