Michael Marzik: Portraits and Autobiographical Notes

‘Portraits and Autobiographical Notes’ is a series of photographic images of people placed alongside observations, thoughts and memories.

Michael Marzik moves between a documentary style of photography and obviously staged art, responding to qualities in his subjects and drawing them out with related imagery. How this imagery relates is sometimes allegorical, sometimes visual or personal, but always invites contemplation and interpretation.

The portrait subjects are artists, known for pushing boundaries and transforming materials, yet captured here, still and preserved. They are no longer the creators but the images themselves, only able to speak to the viewer through their eyes, their stance or their choice of clothes.
