Engrossed in notions of quality and luxury, fashion and appearance, Michael Zavros’ idealised imagery has developed alongside Australia’s pronounced turn to conspicuous consumption and aspirational individualism.

The Favourite comprises an estimated 130 works: drawings, paintings, sculpture, photography, and video created over twenty-five years, profiling significant thematic explorations from European architecture, fashion magazines, and luxury vehicles to still life, portraiture, Narcissus and reflections on his Greek heritage. Highlights include Man in wool suit, 1999, exploring ideas of masculinity, craftsmanship and identity, and surrogate self-portraits and images of his family.
