After working on miniature paintings for over a decade, Natasha Bieniek’s latest series of landscape paintings, White Gold, explores a dramatic shift in scale, painting directly onto coated aluminium (Dibond). Capturing inner-city gardens and urban vegetation, the intensely detailed works are bordered by this reflective material as Bieniek conceptually mimics today’s screen culture and invites consideration of digital screens and society’s obsession with documentation. “Our phones have become an extension of ourselves, and as a result, we often experience our environment through screens,” explains the artist.
