The National Photographic Portrait Prize celebrates the power of photographic portraits to communicate something beyond the appearance of their subjects.
This year, forty-seven finalist works focus on the human condition, identity, transformation, and strength. In this series, we see an eighty-nine-year-old proudly basking in the sun in her underwear; post-pandemic reunions; transitions from adolescence to adulthood; cultural and transcultural identity; queer representation and acceptance; individuals affected by floods, war, illness and those saved by love, friendship, creativity, and the comfort of a soft cloud of blond hair.
