Surveying twenty-plus years of Julie Fragar’s practice, this touring exhibition presents key works from 1998 to 2021, arranged according to key ongoing themes for the artist: biography, memory, identity, and narrative.
Bringing a unique level of psychological enquiry to the activity of painting, Fragar’s practice highlights the slippery relationship between reality and fiction. Often superimposing fragments from disparate sources, her work is a careful process of selection, editing, and obfuscation that interprets the glut and vastness of post-internet connection through her own experiences, memories, and associations.
