Alfred Henrie Elliott (1870–1954) was a Brisbane-based amateur photographer whose images lay dormant for decades until their discovery in 1983 in cigar boxes beneath a Red Hill home. Initially comprising 300 glass-plate negatives and a trusty tailboard camera, the collection’s narrative took an unexpected turn with an additional find of 400-plus negatives and ninety-two prints.
New compositions by Marian Drew, Jo-Anne Driessens, Joachim Froese, Tammy Law, Carl Warner, Nina White, and Keemon Williams add scope, texture and depth to this extensive archive, exploring notions of time, place, fragility and memory.
