OzAsia Festival 2024 highlights

Curated by Artistic and Executive Producer Joon-Yee Kwok, OzAsia Festival, Australia’s leading contemporary arts festival engaging with Asia, returns to Adelaide Festival Centre from 24 October to 10 November 2024 with more than 300 local, national and international artists from twelve countries – featuring seven world premieres, four Australian premieres and nine Adelaide premieres.

On OzAsia Festival’s opening weekend, more than a dozen giant lanterns will light up Tarntanya Wama/Pinky Flat for the beloved Moon Lantern Trail, featuring roving performances, giant puppets, and interactive workshops.

Throughout the festival, you’re invited to be a wedding guest in an interactive theatrical dinner experience, view the romance, action and melodrama of a big Bollywood film live on stage, and listen to the sounds of award-winning composers, rock musicians, Hip Hop and cabaret artists and K-pop tunes. Drummer Chloe Kim will also present an expressive solo drum-kitting performance. The festival’s varied programming also includes comedy acts, shadow puppetry and origami, as well as exhibitions such as Hello, how am I? by Jessie Hui, an exploration in wellness and self-care from a cat’s perspective, and Wish you were here by Vivian Ho, evoking solitude and yearning within surreal, urban landscapes. More weighty offerings include Chisato Minamimura’s Scored in Silence, a new solo digital performance (performed in Auslan with English subtitles) unveiling the hidden perspective of deaf survivors or “hibakusha” of the 1945 atomic bombs in Japan – a poignant portrayal of history and resilience.

On the final weekend, audiences can enjoy thought-provoking panels and inspiring conversations at OzAsia Festival’s Weekend of Words, Australia’s largest gathering of Asian and Asian Australian writers and thinkers.
