From 15 December to April 2018 the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) presents Australian and international artworks, examples of design and architectural ideas and forms for the inaugural NGV Triennial. Over 60 creatives at the forefront of their fields explore ‘social, cultural, scientific and physiological terrains’ with a view to reflect the dynamism of contemporary practice. Many pieces will utilise cutting-edge technology and be drawn from regions the gallery feels could be represented more strongly in its collection such as Africa, South America and the Middle East. Twenty new works commissioned by the NGV include a video-work revealing the personal histories of refugees by Candice Breitz (South Africa), sculptural installation inspired by cultural motifs from Estudio Campana (Brazil), Yarrenyty Arltere Artists (Australia) and Elliat Rich (France), and Ron Mueck’s (Australia) largest work to date.
