Objet d’Art – Theo Koning and his Creative Self

Fremantle-based artist Theo Koning (1950–2022) was known to have a creative eye for uncovering beauty and meaning in what others cast aside – his materials often coming from street junk, skip bins, op shops, school fetes and tips.

Tracing the artist’s career across five decades, including large-scale assemblage and installation, sculpture, series of paintings, drawings, and print editions, over 200 works are presented, including those borrowed from sixty-five institutional, corporate and private art collections. Also included are artist books, narrated poetry, collage, and examples of his mail art.
