This major work by Shelley Lasica comprises an evolving, dynamic performance with costumes, choreography, paintings, sculpture, video, texts, and soundscapes that extend from the artist’s archive of past works. WHEN I AM NOT THERE consolidates ideas and experiments Lasica has been developing throughout her career to investigate the tension between what it means “to perform” and “to exhibit.”
The work sees eight dancers (including Lasica) and objects in constant negotiation with each other, the space, and the visitors, unfolding across two weeks and offering a new encounter each day.
