Robyn Burgess: Painting

Melbourne-based artist Robyn Burgess combines memories and thoughts from travels, drawing on foreign architecture and art.

In this exhibition, Melbourne’s architectural Westgate Bridge and Velázquez-inspired webbed crinoline structured petticoats are key subjects revealing elements such as the grid, shape, repetition, symmetry and rhythm, amidst many secrets – allowing a different pace in the work whilst grappling with the studied nature of gesture within the medium. Momentarily, painting suspends time; “The texture of duration is halted,” says Burgess.
