Rusty Peters

One of the most distinguished artists from the Kimberley region, Rusty Peters is a senior Gija man of Juwurru skin. He has been represented in major public art museums and exhibitions that have explored and challenged important historic events in his country. His painting Chinaman’s Garden Massacre tells the story of yet another tragedy, and was purchased by the AGNSW in 2001. Along with his work Blackfella Murdered in Australia, it was then included in the ‘Blood on the Spinifex’ exhibition in 2002 at the Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne.

These exceptional landscape paintings reinforce Peters as one the most influential, creative landscape artists working in the Kimberley and Australia.
