SALA Festival Tours and Talks

Running from August 1 to 24, The seventeenth SALA Festival offers 547 exhibitions and events featuring over 4,627 participating artists. People are invited to spend a full day participating in productive debates and discussions about state of visual arts in SA now and in the future. A good debate will always generate interesting discussion as it offers people the opportunity to voice their opinions and offer suggestions to bring about positive change. This is a wonderful opportunity for people to listen to artists as they share with the audience their experiences and challenges faced within their art making practice. If you have ever wondered what it is like to be an artist then this is the event to attend.

Make sure to arrive at the festival on Sunday 17th of August where you will be warmly welcomed by Mary-Jean Richardson. Commence your morning at  10am – 11:30am with the discussion ‘Pursuing the Muse, artists reflect on the development of core concepts in their work.’ The rest of your day will be occupied with further talks which include topics such as ‘Curators and artists, two parts of the whole?’, ‘How to make your own art opportunities and make the most of them – DIY’ and ‘Practice and endurance, how artists work.’

The SALA Festival also has a range on tours available for people to participate in. Thursday nights are full of fun during the month of August. You can join Erin Davidson, Museum Assistant at Samstag Museum for a tour of the West End precinct by visiting SALA exhibitions at JamFactory, Australian Experimental Art Foundation, Nexus Multicultural Art Centre, Kerry Packer Civic Gallery and more.  This is a free tour which kicks off at JamFactory at 6pm on the 7, 14, 21 of August. Friday 8th of August sees the eventBring the baby art tour’ which means that you can bring the little ones along to baby friendly galleries and venues around the city, this way no one misses out on the fun.

Make sure to look up the festival to see the full range of events on offer during this exciting month that sees the celebration of art in South Australia.
