The Paddington Art Prize was established by Marlene Antico in 2004. This $20,000 acquisitive prize is awarded annually for a painting inspired by the Australian landscape and this year it is exhibited at Mary Place Gallery, Paddington. An official opening and prize presentation was held on Wednesday November 28 where judges Dr Janis Lander (Art Writer), John McDonald (Art Critic) and Margaret Woodward (Artist) elected the winner of this year’s art prize.
Congratulations to Suey McEnnally for winning the 2012 Paddington Art Prize.
The landscapes by Suey McEnnally are inspired her connection with the Australian bush. She creates large, luminous, light filled works on paper or canvas with oil pastels that seem to shimmer with the light filled palette of the natural grasses and paddocks found in areas of regional Australia.
Honourable Mention and The UNSW COFA Prize award went to Guy Maestri.
Guy Maestri is an Australian contemporary artist who won the 2009 Archibald Prize for a portrait of Australian singer and musician Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu. He is currently patronised by the Tim Olsen Gallery in Sydney, which lists the key themes in his work as “ecology, human folly and the violated landscape.”
Highly Commended was awarded to Daniel Kyle.
