Taras Kripps’ inaugural solo exhibition, Fever Bet, features expansive paintings reminiscent of American abstraction in the ’60s and ’70s.
These works are smouldering and confronting; they are, at times, a kind of journey into darkness. However, this is delicately counterbalanced by a levity brought on by moments of bright palette, raw canvas, and the power of pure white pigment. Even in the darkest depths of these works, a luminosity exists.
Reflected in these paintings are the artist’s tremendous internal and external difficulties, but ultimately the works are life-affirming – not gloomy.
